Herbinass turf areas
Turf areas are subjected to heavy stress while facing high quality demands. The quality of the green results from meticulous maintenance including fertilization, verticutting, mowing, and irrigation. A stressed turf is more susceptible to pathogenic fungi. Some fungi are not visible on the grass blades but form a waxy layer around the roots and soil. This layer is hydrophobic, meaning it repels water. As a result, water cannot properly benefit the grass, leading to drought damage that worsens over the season. Herbinass improves the turf’s water uptake capacity and reduces the risk of drought stress.
Herbinass is a biodegradable wetting agent that enhances wetting, coverage, and adhesion, allowing water to penetrate deeply. It can be mixed with herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides where the use of a wetting agent is recommended on the product label. Herbinass is non-foaming.
Instructions
Initial treatment should be applied when the grass begins to grow and repeated at least once a month. Follow up with irrigation without wetting agent. This method improves drainage of the turf. If water pools after irrigation or rain, root development suffers and the turf becomes uneven. Please refer to the product leaflet or label for correct dosage.

Greenkeeper’s Tip

“Herbinass is a highly effective wetting agent that I use in various ways throughout the season. For example, I apply it on a rolling schedule every four weeks on my tees and fairways. On these areas, it is not necessary to irrigate the product in, but I am careful never to apply it in strong sunlight, such as during the summer months. The dosage I use is 10–15 liters per hectare with a spray volume of 600 liters per hectare.
I also treat certain greens with Herbinass and have seen excellent results there as well. I primarily use Herbinass on greens that tend to dry out faster. For these areas, it is crucial to irrigate the product in thoroughly after application; otherwise, it may cause burning on the greens. I am still fine-tuning the application but expect to treat all greens with Herbinass during the 2019 season. The dosage I use on greens is 5–15 liters per hectare with a spray volume of 600 liters per hectare.
Starting mid-August, I also use Herbinass as an anti-dew agent. This involves mixing 1 liter of Herbinass per 100 liters of spray solution along with 2 kg of Melstar per 100 liters. For example, my sprayer holds 750 liters, so I mix in 7.5 liters of Herbinass and 14 kg of Melstar. I apply this mixture when the greens are completely dry, typically in the middle of the day. This treatment provides between 4 and 10 days of significantly reduced dew on the greens. I have been using this mixture for the past three years with fantastic results, and I highly recommend it—not only because it works so well but also because it is an extremely cost-effective anti-dew solution.”
