Description
FerroGent 30 Powder
FerroGent 30 Powder is an iron sulfate product for use on crops and green areas.
It strengthens grass, makes it greener, and increases its resistance to diseases. Additionally, FerroGent 30 Powder promotes finer-bladed grass species.
Iron sulfate acts as a temporary acidifier and lowers the lawn’s pH level for a limited period. When neutralized by oxygen, the pH returns to neutral.
FerroGent 30 Powder also prevents and corrects iron deficiency (e.g. iron chlorosis) in all types of plants.
Important Information!
Starting in the 2023 season, the previous product “Ferrogent” was replaced by FerroGent 30 Powder, due to raw material shortages that made the old formulation unproducible. (FerroGent 30 Powder is the same product as FerroGent Powder.)
One significant change is how the product is used. It is therefore very important to follow the instructions on the packaging.
FerroGent 30 Powder is not as easily soluble as the previous version and therefore requires lukewarm water, a lower ratio of iron sulfate in the water mixture, and thorough, continuous stirring. We recommend test-mixing a small amount first to ensure the desired results.
If the results from dissolving the product in water are unsatisfactory, you may also spread FerroGent 30 Powder in solid form using a spreader cart with an adjustable flow rate for fine granules (~1 mm), where the flow can be completely shut off. Alternatively, use a bucket and scoop.
Do not forget to water thoroughly afterward! As always, test on a small area first to verify your results.
How Does FerroGent 30 Powder Work?
The advantage of FerroGent 30 Powder is its higher iron content (30% compared to 20% in the previous version), meaning less product is needed per square meter.
It is therefore important to reduce the amount of iron sulfate used—follow the instructions above and/or on the packaging carefully!
Another improvement is that it produces less dust than the previous product, making it easier and safer to handle.
Instructions
Watered Application:
Dissolve FerroGent 30 Powder in lukewarm water and apply using a watering can with a spray ramp or fine rose.
- Dissolve 1 dl in 10 liters of lukewarm water. (Important: add gradually while stirring.)
- Mix thoroughly in a bucket before transferring to the watering can to ensure all iron is dissolved and no undissolved particles remain.
- Stir periodically during application to prevent the iron sulfate from settling.
- Coverage: 1 liter treats approx. 3–4 m².
- Note: Do not use sensitive sprayer equipment.
Solid Application:
FerroGent 30 Powder can also be spread dry, although the granules are slightly larger than in the previous formula.
Spread 15–20 g per m² of lawn.
1 kg covers 50 m² and 10 kg covers approx. 500 m².
- We recommend a spreader cart or bucket and scoop for solid spreading.
- Post-watering is essential to avoid burning the lawn!
Using a spreader cart:
Ensure the setting can accommodate 1 mm particles and that the flow can be completely shut off.
Using bucket and scoop:
Wear rubber gloves when handling the product by hand.
Tip: To simplify spreading and reduce the risk of overdosing, mix FerroGent 30 Powder with dressing sand (particle size 0.25–2 mm). Adjust dosage according to the sand ratio used.
Caution! Avoid getting iron sulfate on paving stones, decorative stone, wooden decks, outdoor furniture, clothing, and other sensitive surfaces, as it may cause staining. Rinse thoroughly and immediately if accidental contact occurs. If staining happens, use oxalic acid for removal. Do not walk on freshly treated surfaces.
NOTE! These general recommendations should be adapted to local conditions such as climate, application method, and specific plant needs.

FAQ
Dissolve 1 dl (approximately 130 g) in 10 liters of lukewarm water. (Important: dissolve a little at a time while stirring). Mix thoroughly in a bucket to make stirring easier and to prevent undissolved particles from transferring into the watering can. Once fully dissolved, pour the solution into a watering can and apply immediately. See also the “Important Information!” section under the “Description” tab.
Moisture is required for the product to be absorbed by the lawn—otherwise, there is a risk of burning. Rain is not strictly necessary; heavy dew in the morning or evening may be enough. On warm, sunny days, we recommend watering when applying iron sulfate. FerroGent 30 Powder can be applied dissolved in water using a watering can. FerroGent 30 Granular requires dew, rainfall, or post-watering.
Yes, wait 2–3 days between applying FerroGent 30 Powder and fertilizing.
We recommend waiting at least 24 hours before allowing pets onto the treated lawn. The product must be thoroughly watered in—either by rain or intentional watering—so that it is fully dissolved and absorbed into the soil. Once dry and absorbed, the lawn is safe for both people and pets. Until then, pets should be kept off the lawn.
Yes, applying a small amount of iron sulfate near berry bushes, such as blueberries, which prefer slightly acidic soil, is fine. Some even use it for lemon trees.
Iron oxidizes and turns brown, staining the surface. Citric acid or oxalic acid can help remove the discoloration, but it depends on the type of stone. Sensitive stones like natural stone or limestone may react to acids and cause additional issues. Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first. We recommend starting with citric acid.
The previous versions (FerroGent Granular, TAB085, and FerroGent) contained 20% iron as heptahydrate. The new FerroGent 30 Powder and FerroGent 30 Granular contain 30% iron as monohydrate. This means you technically need about 50% less of the new products to achieve the same effect. Be careful not to overdose and always follow the instructions on the label. FerroGent 30 Powder can be applied directly or mixed gradually into lukewarm water to prevent clumping.
There are no specific studies on rabbits, so we can’t say for certain. However, we recommend waiting a few days. Let rain soak into the treated lawn before allowing grazing animals access. Alternatively, water thoroughly on day two and allow rabbits back onto the lawn on day three or four.
This depends on the condition of your lawn. If there’s a lot of moss, we recommend overseeding and topdressing. There are many suppliers of grass seed and lawn dressing soil. You may also consider fertilizing with products like Grön Trädgård Eco or Greenkeeping Lawn Fertilizer Moss & Weed.
You can use FerroGent every other month, provided you follow the instructions and don’t overdose. Make sure the lawn is moist, and avoid applying during hot, sunny weather. Apply before rain or water thoroughly afterward.
Start the season by applying FerroGent—it strengthens the grass, increases photosynthesis, and improves growth, helping grass outcompete moss. If your lawn is mostly grass, it’s often best to let the grass naturally overtake the moss with support from proper maintenance (e.g., aerating, overseeding, topdressing, and fertilizing). However, if your lawn is heavily infested with moss and has little grass, you may want to dethatch about one week after applying FerroGent to remove the majority of the dead moss. Continue with normal spring lawn care afterward.
